Interview tip for my InfoSec freshers.
Role of an interviewer is to find the best amongst the lot. They are on a lookout for what else do you bring on the table? If you can answer the question, everyone else can also answer coz all studied using some upskilling classes or YouTube videos, then all of you are capable but not standing out. Have something unique or interesting about yourself, bring the interview towards that angle and then win coz of the sheer experience / capabilities. The part of how to divert the interview in your direction is up to individuals. Some do it via resume, wordings, some by giving pointed answers:
I have been the odd one out a lot of times
- non CS student who knew how to code websites (php / asp)
- Server administrator who knew security
- Pentester who can code / standup server environments
- Manager who knew how to get hands dirty
Organizations benefit when they have people who are over and above the normals, individuals benefit coz the opportunities are always open and you can make a choice what offer to pick. Aim to stand out and not standing outside.
